“Leadership MUST be the new Management for the Future”

Sunken Leadership

by Dr. Joe Aniello

The U.S.S Constitution has been around almost as long as our Written Constitution. Both of these ‘lcons’ survive because despite innumerable ‘attacks,’ they remain indestructible. Even though the tall ship was made of wood, she is called “Old Ironsides” because of the way she was built. She was able to respond like an entirely different (much stronger) material. Likewise, the way our Constitution was written (built), our society was able to respond much stronger than normal individuals constructed in previous societies. There is nothing wrong with our written Constitution that cannot be rectified with Amendments nor with “Old lronsides” for a new ‘Captain’ (POTUS?) to raise her back to the surface (symbolically), spruce her up and set sail again. Despite any and all differences that we may have, The “RIGHTS” detailed in our founding documents remain our collective strength and the secret to our future successes. This ‘stuff ’ is inherently messy, but we must NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF JUDGING OUR FOUNDING FATHERS’ INTENTIONS /MOTIVATIONS/ FALLIBILlTlES 300 YEARS AGO THROUGH A CURRENT ‘LENS’. They did extraordinary work at that time, just as we need to do our own extraordinary work in the current context.

I know the world has become smaller and faster, but that does not necessarily mean that we can never readjust our priorities as we go forward. When times are great, we can afford to have a bigger sphere of influence but when times are tough, it is very normal to “circle the wagons” and protect what is most precious. Maybe this is just another way to look at the United States of America with a slightly new perspective for the benefit of all legal American citizens first and foremost?

“If Management is cruising around to show off your fancy new car then, Leadership is letting a friend drive it before your even buy your first tank of gas.”
